Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is a week-long volunteering program for Milton High School students. The application process is competitive, about 35 students apply annually and out of these, 12 youth are selected to attend the trip.
ASB is a focused community service project that builds leaderships skills, provides the ability to learn new skills, and build new friendships. Past trips have included: Biloxi, Mississippi to help with Katrina relief, Washington DC to work with the homeless, and Macon, Georgia to help with housing for people in poverty. At our first meeting with the chosen applicants, options will be discussed and decided upon.
Participation in the ASB is free to youth! The group of participants conduct fundraising activities to cover the expenses for the trip. Keep on the look out for bottle drives, spaghetti dinners, and tag sales that benefit ASB!
ASB 2012: Joplin, Missouri
In May 2011, EF-5 tornadoes ripped through the small town of Joplin, Missouri destroying homes, schools, and lives. This year’s selected participants have chosen Joplin as their site to complete volunteer work. During the April school vacation students and chaperons will work with Relief Spark to rebuild throughout the area.
Interested in contributing to the trip? Here’s what your gift will cover:
$25 – Meals for one participant, for one day
$50 – Building materials and meals
$100 – Housing for one participant for the week
